The Vision
The brief was singular and demanding: transform a dated master bath into a private wellness retreat that rivals high-end Aman resorts. The client sought an atmosphere of "earthy minimalism"—a space that feels grounded, heavy, and permanent, yet soft enough for relaxation.
The Materiality
The project is anchored by the use of Silver Vein-Cut Travertine. Unlike standard tiling, we utilized large-format slabs to minimize grout lines, creating a monolithic "carved-from-earth" appearance. The coolness of the stone is immediately warmed by the custom floating vanity, crafted from American Black Walnut with a matte oil finish to preserve the natural grain texture.
The Construction Challenge
The true luxury of this project lies in the invisible details.
Precision Masonry: The stone niche in the shower required mitered edges with sub-millimeter tolerances to ensure the vein of the stone wrapped continuously around corners without breaking the visual flow.
Integrated Systems: We utilized a hidden linear drain system and recessed LED channels that wash the stone walls in light, highlighting the natural texture while eliminating harsh overhead glare.
Plumbing Integration: Wall-mounted matte black fixtures were installed directly into the stone slab, requiring precise pre-fabrication and rough-in work to ensure perfect centering over the custom-fabricated stone sinks.
The Outcome
The result is a space of quiet magnitude. By limiting the palette to just three elements—Travertine, Walnut, and Matte Black metal—we created a timeless sanctuary. It is a testament to the philosophy that true luxury is not about adding more, but about refining the essential.
